Family. Subway display

This conceptual illustration won an award for the 12th Annual Juried Art Exhibition at the William Way LGBT community center. The theme of the exhibition was “family”. Blood does not determine who is in your family. Family can be created in the most improvised of places. For example, random people meeting on a subway to commute to work can become family. Also, there is not always communication between the members of a family. All of the people in this image are listening music, reading, or paying attention to their cellphones, rather than paying attention to each other. In this new age of social media, we do not only interact in person with people across all cultures, races, and religions, but we also communicate with diverse groups beyond our borders. This illustration also was selected for inclusion in the 2018 Embracing Our Differences exhibit. The submission was selected from more than 8,000 entries received from 98 countries around the world.
